Before teaching, I was a criminal investigator for 21 years of a 27-year police career, specializing in homicide investigation. I retired from the Miami-Dade Police Department in 2006. During my police career, I also attained an instructor's certificate from the Instructor Training Workshop program, and taught police officers in the subjects of Homicide Investigation, Major Case File organization, and Interviews and Interrogations. I have been teaching at Coral Reef Senior High's Legal and Public Affairs Academy for three years. I am the sponsor for the school's Mock Trial Club and "Barra-Legals" club.
I believe in "hands-on" learning. I try to incorporate as many "mock" situations as I can with my students, creating crime scenes and dramatic storylines complete with witnesses and suspects to be interviewed. We have done mock trials and appellate hearings as well.
Only from the law enforcement field at this point :)
