TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for almost eight years now. I started off teaching in Auckland, New Zealand (8th grade) after receiving my teaching certificate. I moved to L.A. after getting married, where I taught K/1 and 5/6 at a charter school. I moved to Seattle a few years later, and landed a first grade teaching job at an independent school. This year I taught 3rd grade, and will be supporting the Kindergarten teaching team this coming school year, as their Instructional Assistant.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in a balanced teaching and learning model where students take charge of their learning, and the teacher guides and facilitates the journey the students take. It is my job to help students discover the concepts through exploration, asking "quality" questions, and connecting to prior experiences. I also believe a child's social/emotional development is just as important as his/her academic development. I want my students to leave my classroom with important life skills, such as problem-solving, communicative, reflective and critical thinking skills. Students also leave my classroom knowing who they are as learners, and how to capitalize on their strengths to become contributing global citizens.
