TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a published writer and teacher from New Zealand. I was a teacher (mainly teaching Grades 4 to 6, and Gifted students) for 10 years. I've had children's books published by Walker Books (UK, Australia, NZ), Candlewick Press (US), and Klematis (Denmark); including novels, and picture books. My other commercial books include Peace Warriors (about non-violence), short stories, textbooks and school readers published in several countries. I currently work as a writer and freelance editor.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style honors the individuality of each student – I believe each child has unique strengths which teachers should aim to reveal. My learning activities and resources reflect this belief by allowing for a range of responses and learning abilities. My own strengths and interests are in English (literature, mythology and writing); and in Science.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My picture book, 'Flight of the Honey Bee', has won multiple awards in the United States and New Zealand.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), University of Otago, NZ Bachelor of Horticultural Science, Lincoln University, NZ Diploma of Children's Literature, Christchurch College of Education
