I've spent 6 years teaching middle school language arts in both urban and suburban schools and I currently work as a reading specialist in a K-8 school. I have a master's degree in literacy education and my passion is teaching creative writing, specifically poetry.
I believe with all my heart that reading and writing matter and I love to make learning as relevant to students as possible. My goal is to create lessons that draw in real-world experiences and the unique passions and talents so that every lesson can be engaging and personal. I strive to demonstrate to students that both reading and writing have the ability to change minds and hearts. They allow us to step into the shoes of others, past and present, in countries all over the world, or even people who live right down the street. They help our minds grow and develop. They allow us the opportunity to give thanks for our blessings. They can make us laugh. They can make us cry. They can help us through our darkest days. They can preserve our most precious moments. It is for these reasons that reading and writing matter!

My hope is to share simple strategies for inspiring our students to love reading and writing whether they are 2 or 12, in a traditional classroom setting or home-schooled. I hope you will find inspiration to dream and create beautiful words and stories too. Let's get reading and writing!
