I am a first year teacher in the state of North Carolina. I completed my senior teaching internship in Pitt County and have since gained a position in Currituck County, but this is not my first step into the education rodeo! I was a writing consultant for the East Carolina University Writing Center from 2012 until 2014 where I worked one-on-one and in small groups with peers to improve their writing. I also led workshops for the Writing Center and developed discipline specific writing guides for several programs on ECU's campus. Additionally, tutoring with the Athletic Academic Support Staff for ECU provided me with opportunities to hone my teaching style. The same goes for my work with Club Z! tutoring in Peachtree City, GA. In each of these cases I created my own materials to use, and I have realized I possess a passion for creating materials that reinvent the traditional reading guide format and make critical thinking more visually appealing and engaging for students. As I advance in my career I hope to create materials that are helpful for students and their teachers. Thank you for checking out my store! It is sure to grow over time.

By and large, I use a discussion-based approach to English instruction. Every day in my classroom students are invited to voice their opinions and practice qualifying their statements with text evidence. My teaching style also consists of students building their own knowledge through research, collaborating with their peers, and then sharing their findings with the whole group. Though I cover much of the same material in my classes, answers and lessons often lead in a multitude of directions, depending on my students and class make-up. I try to employ some kind of kinetic, movement based aspect in many of my lessons to help keep my students awake and engaged--and also on their toes! My class environment is established as one meant to foster learning, appreciation for literature, and the development of individuality and real-world perspective. There is no one right answer in my class; there are several waiting to be discovered!

Graduate Summa Cum Laude from East Carolina University. (Spring 2015) Materials presented at the Southeast Writing Center Association Conference. (Spring 2014) Designed freshman English project to be used as an exemplar piece for the East Carolina University TQP Grant. (Spring 2014)

B. A. in English and B. S. in Secondary English Education from East Carolina University.

I am a Pitt County, NC native living far away from home with my two loving cat-daughters. My evenings are spent watching Criminal Minds and grading--definitely living the life! I enjoy kayaking and, of course, reading anything that catches my attention.
