I currently teach 4th grade, but have taught 5th grade and worked as an Instructional Assistant for Pre-K through 5th. I am about to begin working at a private company in California implementing academic coaching and educational therapy programs for students with learning differences. In my spare time, I tutor elementary students individually and in small groups. I have specialized experience teaching students with learning differences in the inclusive classroom setting.
I believe in educating the whole child through social-emotional learning experiences in addition to academic learning. I use a student-centered approach so that students can take ownership of their learning. It is important for students to see themselves represented in their own classroom. I purposefully do not decorate and set up my entire classroom before a school year starts so that students can have a say in their learning environment. I use small groups daily for guided reading instruction and frequently differentiate content, processes of learning, and products of learning so that each child has the equitable resources that he/she needs to be successful.
