TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I also teach writing workshops at The Muse Writers Center and have taught writing courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Old Dominion University. I have been homeschooling my children for fifteen years, and I am the literature and writing teacher at our homeschool co-op, where I teach all ages, including AP Literature and Composition and AP Language and Composition.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe the worst thing you can do is to bore a student. I always reach for the most engaging material and the most creative fun assignments. Students learn best when they are reaching, and I love to see them rise to a challenge.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My novel, Shine Shine Shine, was published in 2012 by St. Martin's Press and was a NYT Notable Book, a Target Book Club pick, a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize, and a People Magazine Pick of the Week.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
