Margaret Gorcik and Barclay Marcell have each been teaching for over 15 years - Margaret as a music teacher and Barclay as a literacy teacher. They are collaborating on the Reading Rapper project to reinforce literacy concepts in an engaging manner. As kids start "rapping and snapping" before long these strategy songs will be stuck in their memory banks, improving fluency, comprehension, and strategy implementation.
Margaret and Barclay believe that singing the strategies through their Reading Rapper program will increase student motivation, enhance engagement, and even improve test scores. They are firm believers in bringing the fun back into the classroom.
Barclay has published numerous articles in periodicals such as the Reading Teacher Journal, the Illinois Reading Council Journal, Reading Today, and Educational Leadership. Barclay is working on a book project called Flashlight Literacy. Margaret is an award winning musician, the recipient of numerous grants, and a well respected performer, musician, and educator.
Margaret and Barclay have masters degrees in education. Barclay is a Reading Specialist.
Margaret is the mom of two adorable young ones while Barclay is the mom of two young adult kids. They love collaborating with other teachers and sharing ideas that motivate students to become lifelong learners. They invite you to get rappin' and snappin' in your classroom!
