I have been teaching for 16 years. I started teaching hands-on science to K-8 in the state of Washington. Then I moved to Virginia and taught K-5 Title 1 Reading. Next, we were off to New Orleans where I was Director of Education for the Louisiana Children's Museum. Then we moved to Savannah, where I headed back to the classroom, teaching Title 1 Reading and Math to 3rd grade and self-contained 1st grade. After that, I stayed home with our child and we had yet another move to Florida where we have now settled. When my daughter reached kindergarten, I started teaching Florida's Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program for 4 years. As she got older, I was ready to work full time. For the past 4 years, I have been working as an Academic Intervention Specialist at one of Florida's worst performing schools (bottom 300 elementary schools in the state of Florida). Here, I teach remedial reading to K-2 grade students all day, every day. This has certainly been a challenging job, but it has also helped me hone my craft!
Hands-on and fun! Learning should be fun and the kids should not even know they are learning because they are having so much fun!
