I am currently in my 21st year of teaching. I have always taught upper grades, particularly 6th grade, at the middle school level. All of my years of teaching have involved teaching reading and language arts as well as social studies. In addition, I hold a reading specialist credential and an M.S. degree (language arts emphasis) which have allowed me to teach general education reading classes and reading support/intervention classes, as well as ELD/ESL courses. Because my students have varying reading levels within a wide-range span, I have always had to create "generic" reading response sheets so that all students can learn, acquire, and practice all reading skills at their own reading level and/or grade level.
I believe in giving students a purpose for reading by having them interact with, analyze, respond-to, and discuss text and have created hundreds of ways of doing so! Basic, fundamental skills are always built in and scaffolds are always there...
My response-and-analysis forms are very "generic," versatile, reusable, and flexible. The formatting causes students to reflect-on and develop a deeper understanding of their texts. Designed with teachers AND students in mind!
