For over 20 years, I have enjoyed working as a regular classroom, ESL, Special Education, and Reading Recovery teacher. Currently, I teach Kindergarten, I provide extra instruction to students with ESL and/or special needs in Grades 4 through 7, and I support students who are blind or partially sighted from Kindergarten through Grade 12 in different schools. The variety keeps me on my toes, and I LOVE it!
Whatever works... I'm not committed to any particular style or strategy. I think it's important, however: 1. to know your students well, and 2. to understand and be able to implement multiple approaches... ...whatever works!
I am most proud of having been able to help older children, who had begun to feel defeated by the process of reading, finally begin reading and BELIEVING that they can!
Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Special Education, and Master of Education degree in Special Education (blind/partially sighted students).
One of my passions is learning more ways to promote true inclusion of students with special needs and helping others to do the same... one small step, and one person, at a time.
