TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught Elementary and Exceptional Education for 8 years and then returned to school to add certification to teach secondary English. I love middle-grade and young adult literature! And I love sharing great books with students!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want my students to love books, but more importantly I want them to have transformative experiences through reading and writing activities. My goal is to have students experience the magic of seeing the world in a new and different way. My lesson plans utilize an Understanding by Design (UbD) framework. I am focused on creating materials that foster critical thinking skills and provide meaningful reading and writing experiences.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

When I was student teaching in Grade 12 English, I had the privilege of attending my students’ graduation ceremony where the class valedictorian, and my former student, thanked me in his valedictory speech.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.S. Elementary Education, University of MN, Minneapolis, MN; M.Ed. Special Education, University of MN, Minneapolis, MN; English/Language Arts Licensure Program, Alverno College, Milwaukee, WI

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My life is infinitely good because I married Bill, had Christopher, then Laura, and loved and was loved back by the world’s best dog, Rosie.
