We are John, Allyson, and Ashley & we are Ready, Set, Coteach! John Cox - 2nd grade teacher and Batman aficionado B.S. in Childhood Education (State University of New York at Cortland) M.S. Ed. in Childhood Special Education (State University of New York at New Paltz) Greetings! I’m John Cox and I am a 2nd Grade teacher at Barwell Elementary. This is my 5th year teaching at Barwell and my second year co-teaching with Allyson. My experience spans Pre-K through Middle School but 2nd grade at Barwell is by far my favorite! The atmosphere at our school is full of magic and we strive to bring that into our classroom every day. While completing my Master’s in Special Education, one of my placements was in an inclusion classroom with a co-teacher. Since then I knew that co-teaching is for me and we have had massive success with it here at Barwell! Allyson Caudill - Cat lover, book nerd and English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher B.S in Education – Secondary Social Studies (Temple University) M.S. Ed. in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum with a concentration in English as a Second Language (Drexel University) Hi ya’ll! I’m Allyson and I am the ESL teacher in the mix. This is my 6th year teaching and 4th year at Barwell. I am (mostly) fluent in Spanish and adore working with students from all over the world! Co-teaching has made a huge impact on all our students but, especially, our English Learners (ELs). After all, we started this whole thing because of them! I love, love, love sharing and talking about our co-teaching initiative so don’t hesitate to get in contact. Happy teaching! Ashley Blackley - 1st Grade Teacher, Gilmore Girls enthusiast and mama-to-be B.S in Elementary Education – East Carolina University Hey guys! I’m Ashley and I am a First Grade Teacher at Barwell Elementary. This will be my 5th year teaching 1st Grade. I love seeing my Firsties transition from baby readers to true reading gurus! During my second year of teaching, I had the opportunity to team teach with another homeroom teacher and it was amazing to see what cooperation could bring to the classroom, so when Allyson approached me about co-teaching I was all in. I am so excited to learn from John and Allyson to create magical learning experiences for our students.
The most important thing to us is to promote global awareness, celebrate diversity, and teach acceptance. We also place high value in collaboration and communication between teachers and across grade levels (obviously!). We find cross-curricular activities to be critical and we implement interactive, engaging lessons in our classroom. Most of all, we want students to love school and adore learning!
