In my years of teaching, I have taught a wide variety of history and social science courses at the secondary and undergraduate level. My experiences in Middle School and High School classrooms have given me an appreciation for many learning styles and many approaches to education.
As a high-energy educator, I know the value of engaging students in a fun and active way. Using technology as a tool, I design lessons and activities that put students in the moment being studied and gives them a true understanding of what it was like to live in the past. So many students dislike history because teachers don't present the information in a way that makes it come alive. When students are able to connect with historical figures on a personal level, instead of learning about simple names and dates, real learning becomes permanent. The goal isn't to temporarily cram information into students' minds. The goal is to give students a true understanding of the past that fundamentally improves their ability to succeed in the world today.
As a teacher, I have had so many moments that make me smile. There's nothing quite like hearing a student tell you how much they loved your class and how much fun they had learning! When a student tells me that they've found a love for history because of my class, I know I must have done something right. :- ) I strive to improve every day and I work extremely hard to provide materials that will help other teachers save time and teach effectively.
Before becoming a teacher, I earned my BA at Lehigh University, my MA at Yale University, and my 7-12 Teaching Certification at Penn State University. I developed a love for history and the social sciences that made me want to share that passion with young people.
I have three amazing kids and and I love to watch them learn as they grow.
