More than two decades of teaching languages across levels pre-K-12, university and language for specific purposes. I have also served as director of a language immersion school before my current position teaching secondary languages.
I love to infuse drama into language teaching to bring our practice to life. While education requires hard work and is serious business, it can also be a lot of fun, too. I strive to help my students lose their fear of speaking new languages and experience communication from the very first minutes of the first class through games and dramatizations.
I have been a presenter at the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages Annual Conference and Convention, as well as at BETT 2014 in London. My article on how to use Pinterest for language teaching was published in ACTFL's Language Educator in 2013. I am also a certified rater for the Spanish-speaking test from the Center for Applied Linguistics.
BA in Theater Arts and Foreign Languages, MA in the Teaching of Languages. I am a certified and experienced Spanish teacher for elementary school, elementary school language immersion, secondary school as well as AP Spanish Language and Culture and AP Spanish Literature. I studied in Spain for seven summers and one autumn, as well as completed my MA there. I am also certified in ESL, reading, middle and high school English, middle school social studies, drama, pre-K, kindergarten, grades 1-8, speech, video production and gifted and talented education. I have lived abroad in Spain, the UK, Japan and South Korea.
I travel whenever I can. In 2014 and 2015, I had the opportunity to visit five cities in Spain, three new places in France and Hungary. I was also very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit Poland, Romania, Morocco and Sweden in the last two years as well. I love to learn new things, collect realia and photos as well as real language from the natives from the places I visit. Much of my inspiration and materials come from being abroad and thinking about how to help people have experiences to learn to effectively communicate in real life situations in world languages.
