This is a project I did with my ELL / Gen Ed high school government classes. Students make a political cartoon that takes either the Federalist or Anti-Federalist point-of-view. Then, they explain on the back why they chose to draw what they chose.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Georgetown School of Foreign Service, MA Latin American Studies International Schools- Brazil, Venezuela, Israel, Spain Urban School Districts, DC metro area International Academy, DC metro area

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach mixed ELL/gen-ed classes in an urban high school in Northern Virginia, DC Metro Area. My style is collaborative and self-paced. I backwards assess with multiple choice tests (gotta get them scores up) and collaborative projects. Kids work together on summative projects that engender content-based convos and teamwork. The bread and butter of my class is a flipped, self-paced individualized classroom, where students complete "BFUs" -- umm, it means benchmark-focused units,-- which are thematic packets on historical issues. We hit all the standards, but we do it without boring powerpoints-- We read and analyze historical trends and historiography. Learning is emphasized over "copying." Facilitating is emphasized over "lecturing."
