TEACHING EXPERIENCE

With 48 years of educational and life experiences, I'm ready to share my ideas. "If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original." ~ Sir Ken Robinson I can think back and remember moments, when I was just two years old. As a learner in the world, I recall what I thought and felt as I interacted with my parents and teachers. Some of their responses still resonate with me today. I take with me the memory of my sixth grade teacher putting me in a chair next to her piano. She made me sit there and sing. I cried in front of the whole class, as I sang a Civil War song, "Eating Goober Peas." So, when I see a child laughing and goofing off, I think of a better way to get them to stop. I think of a respectful and effective way to respond. Because, not only do I need my classroom to run well, but I need the child to run well also! I will never demean them and for lack of a better word, I will never make them feel stupid. "The academic child will not come out to play, if their heart is not in it. Take care of their heart, always."

MY TEACHING STYLE

I come at this from various angles. My style is to be lovable and firm. I use Respectful language with a Caring tone, no matter what. (Do you recognize the name of this approach? No, Silly, it's the Relevant Approach!) * I read and self educate myself on trends in the schools and education system. If there is a problem with the functioning of the group, it is usually something I need to change or put in place first. I also seek to learn the best teaching methods, and new trends, to prepare for the technology age. My style is to find a way to reach each child. I sit next to them and truly listen to what's going on in their world. It's important for me to set individual character and learning behavior goals for each student. * I just made that up. (This is a Footnote.)

My family has lived in many states. I have held a few different positions in the Early Childhood and Elementary school system, including Education Coordinator and Supervisor. * But the best experience of all, continues to be that I have raised a son and daughter. Therefore, I can feel the perspective of a parent. *I have been on the flip side of the coin.
