I'm an English teacher from the Netherlands. I have taught in primary and high schools in the Netherlands and in Colombia, including three bilingual positions. I've also taught adults. I´ve recently created a project which contains English lesson plans for high school students and which intends to teach them to live with passion and compassion.
I believe some teacher instruction is often required; however, students should be able to work independently. Since we're all different, I often leave it up to students whether they wish to work alone, in pairs or in groups. I like for there to be options available; e.g., they can choose from a number of magazine articles. I care a lot for my students and consider it a pity the current educational system allows me so little personal guidance and little time to prepare the classes I wish to teach. Besides preparing them for work, I want to help prepare them for life.
I have an M.A. in American Studies, for which I spent one semester at UNC Chapel Hill, and a Post-M.A. in Teaching English from the University of Amsterdam. Additionally, I possess a TESOL certificate.
I have traveled a lot and have lived on several continents. I´m currently living in Colombia and I´m working with stray animals and help nurse them back to health. In Guatemala I worked with children from the slums. I'm an idealist and like to incorporate that into my lesson plans at https://compassionateenglish.com. I have also self-published an autobiography.
