TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been working with low income and generational poverty students in rural SW Georgia for five years and have taught ninth grade English, Reading, and Pre-AP.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to use bright colors, interesting pictures, and relative examples to create interactive Power Points that engage students’ interest, drill basic skills, scaffold ideas, address multiple learning styles, and encourage critical thinking. I also design materials and resources that explicitly teach cognitive strategies for analyzing texts and creating original written works that are brimming with exciting and colorful language. Based on performance standards and real-life expectations, most of my activities and units encourage students to practice different English Language Arts skills (grammar, vocabulary, writing, and reading) in tandem.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was honored to be nominated by my colleagues as Teacher of the Year for 2013.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

M.S. in Instructional Design from Western Governors University; B.S. in Secondary English Education from Kennesaw State University; Certifications in Secondary English Education grades 6-12, Reading Specialist, AP English
