This is my 9th year as a first grade teacher. Time flies when you're having fun!
I would say my teaching style is FUN! If what I am teaching doesn't excite me, and it isn't fun for me, then how is it going to keep the attention of 6, 7, and 8 year olds? I love to make things interactive whenever possible, so I use lots of PowerPoints, games, songs, etc. My personal life is a huge part of my teaching, just as my "kids" aka students are always with me outside of school. We connect on a personal level and I think that helps the students feel like we really are one big family. They feel comfortable sharing things with me and can laugh with me, and it makes our days so productive, yet enjoyable at the same time.
I was a Teacher of Excellence in Northwest Indiana in January of 2012. I was nominated for Teacher of the Year in my corporation in 2009.
I went to elementary, middle, and high school in the same city that I now teach in! Once a Brickie, always a Brickie! I received my undergrad at Purdue in 2003 in El. Ed. with a kindergarten endorsement. Boiler up! I recently graduated with my Master's in Elementary Education/Reading along with a Reading Certificate. I love math as well, though, and took an Inquiry class at Purdue University Calumet. I would love to pursue this more and possibly eventually get a Master's degree in math as well!
I recently started a blog: www.slidingintofirstgrade.blogspot.com I am a HUGE Cubs fan! My profile picture is actually a picture of me on the mound at Wrigley this summer!! My classroom is like a mini-Wrigley. My students, their families, and I have fun bantering about the Cubs, Sox, and any other baseball team- so fun! This year was my first year as a season ticket holder. I waited 10 years to get tickets! I also am an avid cat lover, but no, I am not a crazy cat lady! Ok, maybe a little. My cats provide inspiration for many writing workshop stories. Most importantly, I am the proud aunt to my beautiful and hilarious 2 year old niece, and I love her to pieces! Also, I am the (fairy) godmother to a ridiculously smart 3 year old who always keeps me smiling. I am new to TpT, so if you have any suggestions, please email me. I am happy to take constructive criticism. (Try to throw in a compliment first... works with the kids, so I'm sure it will work with me!)
