I have taught high school Family Consumer Science for 3 years, high school self-contained Life Skills for 3 years and am starting my second year of teaching Elementary Students with Autism in a self-contained Structured Teaching & Alternative Communication Classroom (STACC).
I believe that students learn best from interacting with their environment and being introduced to new experiences. In addition I believe that students learn different things through various learning styles such as auditorily, kinestheticly, and visually. While we each learn best with one of the styles, we all learn from all of them. For this reason I use a lot of visuals and music in my classroom in addition to the hands-on learning opportunities.
I am honored to teach children with Special Needs
I have an AAS is Legal Studies, a BA in Sociology with a Minor in Criminal Justice, 33 Graduate Hours in Family Studies, an MA in Teaching, Graduate Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis, and am looking into obtaining Educational Diagnostician certification.
I have 3 grown daughters, 2 grown step-children, 2 grandchildren, and am currently raising two great-nephews with severe ADHD. For this reason I learn new teaching strategies every where I go and use them both at home and at school.
