I have taught the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades for fourteen years and was a K-5 science coach and math coach for a few years before deciding to return to my first love, 4th grade.
I'm a highly visual, auditory, and tactile learner....thus my style of teaching reflects this. Teaching science, social studies, and language arts are by far my personal favorites - yet as fate would have it, I was sort of recruited as a science coach and then as a math/science instructional coach after that. Therefore, I said 'bring on the math love and learning' as I continued my growth journey and built deeper capacity with a subject I always had to work very hard at for my students. Using the 5E math/science inquiry instructional methods are also a personal favorite as this approach lends itself incredibly well to authentically engaged learning, true constructivism. I'm continuously impressed by the gains that struggling students and ELL students are making in science through active engagement. I am a huge fan of Kagan Cooperative Learning structures. It's one of the best week-long professional development opportunities that I've ever participated in - - - - - and didn't know I needed.
