I am a relatively new teacher with five years of experience working as both a middle school science teacher and a middle school gifted support teacher. During this time, I have served as a Science Olympiad coach and the director/stage manager of our middle school play.
For science lessons, I try to take as much of a hands on and lab based approach as possible. Serving as a facilitator and allowing students to learn on their own before I step in as a teacher has been very effective for me. The district I work in loans all students an iPad mini as part of their one to one technology initiative. As such, my instruction tries to incorporate as many ways to use this technology effectively as possible. This includes course management systems, content specific apps, and apps for recording projects and/or presentations.
I am an Eagle Scout and was Graduation Marshal for the Geosciences Department at school.
BS in Earth Sciences - Penn State University Minor in Geosciences - Penn State University Hoping to start Graduate School soon!
I love anything to do with the outdoors - backpacking, cycling, stargazing, you name it. I recently ran my first half marathon and am building slowly towards the full. I love recording the things I see in the world to share with my students. I like to think that it helps promote curiosity and an understanding that school is not the only place that one can learn.
