Twenty-five years in K-12 education. Focus was seventh (An intro to Bilogy) and eighth grade general science (An intro to Chemistry and Physics), and eighth grade Honors Biology.
I use a variety of styles, depending on subject and the complexity of material. There is still a need for lectures, but I use a minimum of Keynote (PowerPoint) presentations and intersperse the slides with science humor. 5-a-Day allows for spiraling of material and lab activities help make the concepts more concrete. I also try very hard to relate the science standards to real life for my students.
Lots of positive feedback from former students and their successes are the honors and awards that really count. However, I have been selected as a National Science Museum Teacher of Excellence, Who's Who in education, and student nominated yearbook dedicatee. There's probably others, but I forget...
