TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Molly Cochell has taught PreK-Special Education or Kindergarten for the past 25 years. Laura Fullmer has taught third grade, first grade and kindergarten. Their book, English Language Arts the Kindergarten Way, was released by Capstone in May 2017.

MY TEACHING STYLE

We believe that kindergarten, as the beginning of a child’s school experience, should be engaging, active, social and fun! We see that young children learn best when provided with lessons that are integrated, interactive, and meaningful. We want to be respectful of kindergarten student needs and try to provide hands on or concrete ways of learning. To help accommodate for individual student differences, we use open-ended activities that allow for a variety of ways to be completed. This open-ended style also allows teachers to easily modify these lessons for different classes and different styles of teaching. We balance our instruction between teacher directed and discovery learning to help teach necessary foundational knowledge and to help teach children how to learn. Both skill sets are necessary to start children along on their school journey. We believe that incorporating the arts into teaching (visual art, dance, music, and drama) can greatly enhance learning.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Past honorees for Special Education Teacher of Year, Trainer for Best Practices in Early Childhood/Special Education, Meridian Parent Association, Teacher of the Year for Meridian Elementary and Christine Donnell School of the Arts, Honored for grant writing and program implementation bringing arts into schools, presenter at Arts Powered Schools conferences and school in-services.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
