I have been an elementary school teacher for 25 years, working the last 20 years for the Department of Defence Education Activity (DoDEA) schools in Guam. I taught 1st grade for 23 years and have been teaching 3rd grade for the past two years.
I believe teachers should be facilitators in the the classroom, teaching their students how to be responsible for their own learning through hands-on exploration and activities. I love center-based and problem-based learning and management in the classroom.
I was selected the 2014-15 DoDEA Guam District Teacher of the Year and have have been nominated twice for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 2106 for science and 2012 for mathematics. I was a presenter at the 2016 National Science Teacher Association conference in Nashville,TN.
I earned my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Mathematics from Concordia University in 2014. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from California State University, Fresno in 1988. I completed my teacher certification courses at the University of Guam in 1996.
I have been working on making materials for TPT since 2017 with the assistance of my daughter Sara, who holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Adolescent Literacy from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Secondary Education from St. John's University in New York City. She taught 9th and 11th grade English in NYC for 4 years. Sara edits and focuses on the layout and design of our materials after I have developed the educational content.
