Five years, equivalent full time teaching mostly physical geography (earth science/environmental science with emphasis on spatial distribution) at two community colleges in Illinois. Specialties include biogeography and geomorphology.
Many students are visual learners. I use Google Earth extensively in the classroom and will be giving people tips and suggestions about how to use Google Earth effectively in the classroom. I have found that students learn the earth sciences, ecology, and other natural sciences best when real world examples of places are used to illustrate concepts. When students know that they can go somewhere and see what is being talked about, it becomes real to them. For this reason, my materials will contain many references to places across the United States, and in some cases beyond.
