I am a male general music teacher and professional musician who loves to experiment with technology and find new things to do with my classroom. My classroom is relaxed but with well established procedures and high expectations. Adding a Smartboard changed the way I teach and I work hard to implement it in many of my lessons. I work closely with our art and PE teachers to integrate cross curriculum, and encourage my students to explore and create new things. I have fun adding non traditional songs to my lessons and typically hear parents say "I wish my music classes had been like this!"
Consistently ranked "Excellent with Distinction" in administrative evaluations. Golden Apple nominee. Presented at the iPads in education Summit, as well as introducing iPads to other teachers in district workshops.
B.A. In music education with emphasis on vocal performance from Northern Illinois University. Masters in Professional Devolopment from University of Wisconsin LaCrosse. Journal Article and research on Implementation of Comprehensive Musicianship through Performance (CMP) and its effect on student ownership of learning.
I spent many years as a touring musician singing and playing bass guitar. I currently play guitar and sing for a regional classic rock band regularly playing for crowds of 500 fans in clubs and thousands during festival season. I grew up listening to independent rock bands and incorporate as much of their music as I can in my classes.
