With 16 years teaching experience, I have seen a great deal of change from old ideas in sport education to newer teaching methods using collaboration, learning targets, essential standards and common core alignment. With emphasis on reading text and writing, physical activity and kinesthetic activities cannot and should not be compromised. These promote learning and engage both sides of the brain. In Health Education, my curriculum is aligned to specific learning targets that fall under four essential skills. All lessons are aligned to these learning targets that also align to national standards and many state to state standards in health and physical education. Application of critical thinking questions within the curriculum provide students with a personalized lesson that is relatable.
Movement, discussion, collaboration, interaction and critical thinking skills are utmost important to cater to students that typically need a kinesthetic, dynamic classroom to experience success.
