I have been a teacher just before I legally became an adult. My journey began in an all age school where I taught Form 1 then moved to forms 4 and 5. After graduating from teacher's college I moved to a secondary school to pursue my subject specialty - Information Technology where I also taught Visual Arts to the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate level although my minor was Social Studies. One of my most nerve wrecking tasks as a teacher was teaching Principals, Vice Principals, HODs and other ranked professionals. I provided an upgrade course to their basic computer skills. I took a private school job offer in the Bahamas in 2008 to be a primary school computer teacher responsible for K thru 6. Then took up another post to teach Visual Arts and Computer in another private secondary school (7-12). I provide math and reading intervention for grade 3 and 11 and special attention to handwriting from K to 4. I also provide teaching and learning materials along with classroom decorations and aids as a service to various schools and individuals.
My teaching style varies depending on my students. Through experience and study as a teacher it is known that each child has different learning abilities and as such we have to adapt to suit their ability whether it is a hands on approach using concrete materials or an audio-visual approach using digital and technological aids. I try to make my classroom environment one that is mobile and can be transferred from indoor to outdoors to aid the learning process.
