TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have more than 20 years experience as a dedicated educator and recently became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of early/middle childhood literacy. I have worked as an ESL/ABE teacher, a Literacy Coach, Title, 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade teacher. I currently teach, learn with and inspire kindergarten - 6th graders as the Title 1 Lead Teacher at my school.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My classroom is filled with enthusiasm, optimism, caring, and creativity. I appreciate the uniqueness of my students. I know that every single day I have the choice to help build a student up or tear him down. I focus on my student’s strengths while identifying their areas of need. Together we work to improve them. I empower students with a “can-do” attitude. I model and teach character traits, thinking skills and life skills that will help my students long after they leave my classroom. I develop trusting and mutually respectful relationships with my students and their parents. I form partnerships with parents to provide the support and guidance my students need. I will never stop being a learner myself and will do all that I can to encourage my students to also be life-long learners. I foster a love of literacy by sharing my passion for reading and writing. I help kids build a solid foundation by helping them learn the strategies and skills all good readers and writers must have. I seek out opportunities, ideas, books, technology, and other people to assist me with learning experiences that will enrich my students. I appreciate the satisfaction of knowing that what I love doing (teaching) makes a tremendous difference in the world.
