I am a professor at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. I have over 20 years of experience in the field of special education as a teacher, technical assistance provider, and professor. I received the 2000 Distinguished Initial Career Research Award by the Council for Exceptional Children and secured over 22 million dollars in external funding, published more than 150 articles, book chapters, and books that focus on serving children at risk of school failure and research issues. I have developed a number of behavior (e.g., The Think Time Strategy) and literacy interventions that have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (e.g., Stepping Stones to Literacy, Early Vocabulary Connections, Multiple Meaning Vocabulary Program). I am the lead author of “Vocabulary learning: Tools and strategies for teaching students with learning difficulties.”
