TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 21st year working in elementary education. I taught 5th grade for 13 years, as well as 2 years in 3rd. I was a literacy facilitator for 3 years and am currently working as an MCL, or multi-classroom leader in Project L.I.F.T.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Well, this could take forever but I'll just name a few: Data-driven, resources tailored to students needs, tons of modeling and practice, time on task, morning letters, student independence and ownership, and student growth.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Teacher of the Year a few times, 1 of 3 elementary teachers in CMS to be chosen to be part of Project R.I.S.E. in 2008, Highest 5th Grade Growth in CMS in 2008, Strategic Staffing Literacy Facilitator 2010-2013, Opportunity Culture Multi-Classroom Leader 2013-2018, Led a team of 6 teachers in 2017-2018 to high growth in 3rd grade reading with 5/6 of the teachers earning state bonuses and 3/6 earning district and state bonuses.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Graduated from Valparaiso University in 1997. National Board Certification (MC-Gen), 2003-2004. Some Graduate work in Leadership, 2007-2009. National Boards Re-Certification (MC-Gen), 2014-2015.

Have a lovely wife, who also works in education. Also have 3 adorable kids - Landen 8, Hayden 5, and Daxten 5 months!
