My career in education has spanned fourteen years and has included teaching self-contained sixth grade, teaching junior high language arts, and literacy coaching at the junior high level. In addition, I have a six-year-old son in Kindergarten, which is teaching me a lot about how the littler ones learn!
I am a fun-loving teacher who loves to laugh. My students are a constant source of amusement to me, and I try to bring that same fun energy to my lessons. I currently teach junior high language arts, and only have 56 minutes with each class, so we work hard to make sure each moment counts. My priorities are that the kids have a solid understanding of what we're doing and that they have as much work time as possible. My classroom is a mix of teacher-led mini-lessons, small group work, one-on-one conferring, and online work. I use interactive notebooks for notes and practice, and Google Classroom for online lessons and final products.
Hmm. My kids draw me pictures of unicorns, narwhals, and Miley Cyrus that say I'm the best. Does that count?
I got my BS is in elementary education and my MS in curriculum and instruction at Illinois State University. Go Redbirds! I've had training in Writer's Workshop (through Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing Project), PCL (Partnerships in Comprehensive Literacy with Dr. Linda Dorn), and CIM (Comprehensive Intervention Model with Dr. Linda Dorn). I have also been facilitator for CLM (Comprehensive Learning Model) training in our district.
I live in Central Illinois with my fiancé, six-year-old son, and many animals - including our eight backyard chickens. I am a crazy chicken lady!
