I am happily in my 7th year of teaching children! I spent four wonderful years in third grade and am now in my third year in fifth grade. I absolutely have loved both of these ages and the curriculum within each grade. In addition to teaching in the general education classroom, I also teach private piano, violin, and viola lessons. I am currently in my 10th year of teaching children to read music and play instruments.
I believe that educating students (of any age) should include many elements-rigor, technology, cooperative work, independent work, project-based lessons, STEAM initiatives, and as educators we know the list continues. However, I believe above all else, that educating students is about using all of these various educational elements to instill a love of learning and a desire to always know more, no matter the subject. The students we teach truly are "the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future" as JFK so eloquently stated. I teach because it makes me happy. When I work with my students each day, I hope to fill my classroom and my students with that same happiness that will one day drive them to grow into more than they could ever dream.
2013-National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (Middle Childhood Generalist)
In 2014, I received my Gifted and Talented Certification from the University of South Carolina in Aiken, SC. In 2012, I received my Masters in Literacy and ESOL from Clemson University in Clemson, SC. And in 2008 I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from North Greenville University in Tigerville, SC.
I also enjoy working with students outside of school and have helped with our school's Lego Robotics after school club as a STEM initiative for its first year off the ground. In addition to this after school organization, I have sponsored my school's Student Council for fourth and fifth graders for three years now and have helped develop a school and community awareness for this group of students. I have also started a weekly news show at my school in which I write the scripts, record each segment, create and edit the videos, publish and send out to our school and community. I encourage students academically throughout the year by also organizing and sponsoring our school's National Elementary Honor Society. On a personal level, I am a Christian and all that I have and all that I have been able to accomplish in my seven years of teaching have been because of what God has blessed me with. God has also blessed me in that I have been married to my best friend and love of my life for over three years now. My husband (TJ) and I live in the Upstate of South Carolina, which is where I was born and raised. I am a true Southerner and absolutely love my home!
