I am entering my 4th year of teaching 5th grade. I have also had experience teaching kindergarden, but my passion is teaching upper elementary. I serve on a team in my county of learning architects in the content area of social studies. We are working on prioritizing the standards to move towards standards based grading within the next 2 school years. I also serve as my school's PBIS coach. We are about to begin our first year and I am excited to see how facilitating appropriate behavior within our school will impact student learning.
My teaching style is to create student-centered activities where my students can lead themselves to be successful with my guidance. Students in 5th grade have a large responsibility to grow from elementary to middle school students over the course of their year with me, and I strive to lead them to do that. I love integrating all subject areas whenever possible and adding real-life scenarios into lessons often. I believe teaching content while making a connection to the world helps my students broaden their perspective of what's waiting for them outside of the four walls of my classroom.
