TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught high school language arts for 17 years in public schools in Washington, Illinois, and Colorado. I am in my sixth year at my current school. I have taught grades 9-12 in a variety of courses from struggling readers and writers to advanced students in AP and IB courses. I also teach journalism and advise student publications. I have also taught secondary methods courses and worked closely with pre-service teachers in a variety of settings.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I do as much as I can to get out of my students' way. I work to invite my students to engage meaningfully in my classroom and give them choices to direct their work toward their passions. My students' ideas about our content are the center of my classroom. I also make use of current and emerging information and communication technologies to help my students be able to navigate these tools for future success in a 21st century world that we can only imagine at this point.
