I have tutored since high school. After completing my teaching certificate, I substituted for a semester and have been in my own classroom since. I taught TAKS reading for 3 years and now teach beginning readers in 1st grade.
I believe that pairing character education with academic learning is key. If students do not have good character, they cannot use their academic knowledge to its fullest. I also like pairing pictures with words and ideas to help teach little ones and English Language Learners and to help older ones remember and make connections.
Graduated valedictorian from high school. Provost’s Honor Roll and President’s Scholarship Recipient at Chapman University. Graduated Magna Cum Laude with (Communications) department honors from Chapman University.
I have always loved school! I had perfect attendance for most of my elementary through high school years. I graduated high school as a valedictorian. Once in college, I was able to expand on my love for teaching by getting my certificate in teaching and paring it with a communications degree. My degree has helped me communicate in the classroom, at the school and with parents. While in college, my experience abroad further impacted the teacher I am in the classroom. I took a Second Language Acquisition course in Madrid, Spain through Chapman University. The goal of the course was to gain more effective teaching strategies for ELD and ESL students by experiencing being a Second Language Learner through total language emersion. I also took course on education while studying abroad at the University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland.
I think about teaching while at home. I always want to make the most impact on my students. I believe that character education and expectations are just as important in the classroom as subject learning.
