I have taught both fourth and fifth grade self-contained. For my last year, I was the sole math teacher for the fourth grade, and taught a class of social studies. In my experience, I have learned that the students who need the most help-do better with a song or rhyme scheme.
I am a firm believer of teaching a method and letting the students "think tank" explore the strategies and use their application to solve questions.
I have received the "teacher of the month" award every year since I had my first classroom. I was nominated twice for Teacher of the Year for my school.
I had an extremely hard time learning math when I was growing up. So when I became a teacher I tried my best to teach strategies and silly songs or crazy background stories-to keep the kids interested.
I taught for five years, working in 90/90/90 school. I tried to make all my lessons relevant and fun for all my students. I am currently a stay at home mom for my two beautiful, little girls.
