I was the ASL Program Coordinator and a teacher at San Diego State University for over 10 years. I taught undergraduate students ASL 1,2 and 3 and taught graduate students advance courses in ASL. I taught PreK and Kindergarten in a Deaf and Hard of Hearing class in the San Diego area. Currently, I am interpreting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing faculty at the University of California, San Diego.
My teaching style has always been a mostly immersion setting. No voice from day one in an ASL class. So much fun. Always an active and moving class environment.
A couple of mini scholarships for grad school and a Community Service award from the student governance board at SDSU.
I have a BS degree in Marketing/Business Admin from Bloomsburg University, Pennsylvania and a MA degree in Deaf Education/Communicative Disorders from San Diego State University.
My parents are Deaf. I am a CODA. My goal is to create ASL products which makes learning ASL fun and more accessible. I have a website, sayitinsign.com for the ASL products and spoonflower.com/profiles/marykane for the ASL fabrics and gift wrap paper. I really enjoy trying to find ways to embed ASL into products to give teachers and families more choices in how they can include ASL into their daily lives.
