I've been a counselor for 27 years--it's hard to believe! I was an outpatient therapist for half that time, working with children, adults and families in a group home as the clinical supervisor for my team. I also did outpatient counseling at a mental health setting as well as in-home counseling for children and adults. I began my trek into education by working with adults getting their college degrees as the Assistant Dean of Continuing Studies. A big part of my role was to help students adjust to their new responsibilities. I realized I really missed working with children, so I became an elementary school counselor in 2001. I love working with little children--they are such a joy! I love their uncomplicated and fun ways of seeing things! Working with their parents is also a blessing. I hope you enjoy my store and wish you all the best in your endeavors!
I love bright, colorful, interesting lessons. My theory is, if I'm bored with it, the kids will be too! I use a mix of techniques and teaching skills in my work with children. Making and playing games is something I love to do in order to reach them. I use many techniques, but I mainly use play therapy, cognitive-behavioral work, art therapy, brief therapy techniques, as well as some Rogerian techniques.
