TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began my teaching career in January 2007 in Cy-Fair ISD. Looking back, I am glad that this district found me first. I was trained to create authentic, student-centered activities. This of course resulted into many differentiated activities for struggling students all the way to my GT or Pre-Ap students. I began with 7th grade Texas history, then 6th grade World Cultures, and then 7th grade ELA. Due to moving to the south part of Houston I applied and got into Houston ISD. The network and colleagues I have gained is priceless. Collaboration is the true key to student success. Without the guidance and brainstorming acquired, I would not have the growth mindset that I have now. There I taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grade ELA. I moved up with my students up to the point I couldn't any longer. It was a blessing to watch them grow and be their teacher for three years. Currently, I am now in Fort Bend ISD with a former colleague I met in HISD. Leadership is essential in running a productive and successful campus. I am now department chair and lead in differentiated instruction. I love my job and currently am teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in student-centered activities and allowing students to really internalize the instruction to see the relevance and connections. I challenge my students by asking higher-order questions. I make it a personal goal to meet each student's learning styles. I love incorporating stations when I can. The interactive student notebook is my organizational method with my students. I have procedures from the moment my students step into my classroom. And I do believe in: inspect what you expect. As a teacher, I have high expectations for myself and want to keep my teaching style fresh and effective. In order to achieve this, I truly believe in collaboration and building teams to ensure we are meeting the needs of all our students.
