TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 14 years in a variety of science classes, including biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology, forensic science, physical science, earth science, marine biology, science literacy, botany, and greenhouse management. One fun side effect of teaching in a small district is that I've never had the same course load more than once in my entire career. Besides my teaching duties, I am the coordinator of our school's Link Crew freshman transition program, a liaison for our community's 40+ year Beautification Day, and I coached competitive cheer for 8 years. I like to keep busy!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am the definition of laid back. I like to let kids explore and go off on tangents that interest them, and I love to try new things. I like to use interactive notebooks with my students when applicable, and I'm diving off into the abyss of 1:1 classroom integration. I love that my day is never boring and always different than the one before. The teenage audience is fabulous to work with!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have presented at the state and national level in the areas of science education and professional development. I've received over 3 (THREE!) Twitter favorites before, and one of my students gave me a "World's Most Awesome Teacher" mug last Christmas. Does that count? Can you tell that I don't take myself too seriously?

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I am a graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in Environmental Biology/ Botany and Plant Pathology. Back then I did things like study inbreeding depression in wild radish. It got old. I completed my secondary certification in science at Saginaw Valley State University and am currently working on my thesis for an M.S. in Science Education at Northern Michigan University. Now things are never boring.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a mother of twins, amateur genealogist, and artist at heart.
