I have been teaching science for 14 years. I have taught math and reading, but science is my passion!
I am an "out of the box" - "fly by the seat of my pants" type teacher. I always have a plan, but I am flexible enough to allow students to take my basic plan and fly in new directions with their own designs. I started out that way for the first 6 years of my career and watched students fall in love with science. The next 7 years, I found myself "boxed in" to a district wide curriculum that did not allow creativity from students or teachers and I felt I was burning out. I am now in a school that bases all instruction on "Design Thinking" and my broken wings are healed! Students are given the TEKS (Texas standards) and directly taught basics then and challenged to apply that knowledge to solving a real community problem! Teaching the students - not the test! That is my style!!!
