I've been an informal teacher for over 20 years. Starting in nature education and eventually finding myself in science education. For the last 10 years, I've had the privilege of being able to teach almost exclusively to homeschoolers. This has allowed me the opportunity to create a physics curriculum from scratch that is designed to be easy, effective, and hands-on. Perfect for teachers on a budget. I have also created a series of videos that go with my curriculum and am presently working on putting my materials into iBook format.
In a word, fun. I make it a point to be entertaining and approachable in my writing and lecture style. I feel it's very important for the teacher to appear to be enjoying his/her subject area and a smile, laugh, or joke during a lecture goes a long way towards portraying that. I'm also quite hands-on. I accompany almost every lecture with many different hands-on activities or demonstrations.
I'm afraid I don't have any specific honors or awards other than many smiling faces, enriched students and positive reviews of my materials.
I have a B.A from Lake Forest College and a M.S. from Aurora University.
I was born in 1966 and have been creating programs and lessons plans since 1988. I have been very fortunate to be able to work with many teachers, mentors and students and each one of these experiences has taught me to be a better teacher.
