I have been teaching science since 2003. I spent 12 years teaching 7th grade science at Mason County Middle School in Maysville, KY and currently work as the Middle Grade STEM Outreach Specialist for Northern Kentucky University's Center for Integrative Natural Sciences and Mathematics. In my current role, I conduct various outreach lessons and activities with middle schools in the region as well as head up the middle grades ngSC (Next Generation STEM Classroom) that helps teachers in the development and implementation of best practices in STEM teaching with the Next Generation Science Standards.
I love teaching science through a hands on approach integrating technology and inquiry based labs. I also integrate science note booking and reading strategies based on the Common Core Standards in reading and writing. Most all of my lessons come from the 5E model which I feel really embraces the best practices of what we as educators should be doing in the classroom.
