TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 17 years experience teaching science in middle school. I've taught in Baltimore's inner city and in Lee County, Florida. I've run science departments, science fairs, S.T.E.M. nights, and just about anything that has "science" in it. I also worked in and Research & Development lab for 5 years for a major cosmetics manufacturer--so I have real lab experience.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Outside-the-box. I make difficult to understand abstract concepts into easier to grasp concrete concepts. This is very important for middle-schoolers who do not have full grasp of the "abstract understanding" part of their brains yet. Providing enough practice with skills and concepts often gets thrust aside because we have so much to cover, but it is so necessary. I try to make things easy to remember by involving as many motions, songs, sensory stimuli as possible.

Highest FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) scores of all public schools in the state of Florida school year 2012-2013. 1st National Board Certified Early Adolescent Science teacher in Lee County, FL Golden Apple Teacher Finalist s.y. 2010-2011.
