I have been a teacher for almost 20 years. Most of my career has been spent in the secondary school science lab, teaching chemistry & physics at all levels. My first teaching job was in a school for gifted students, where I taught junior, intermediate and senior science, as well as computers to a variety of different grades. My current placement sees me back in the middle school classroom in an IB private school with high academic standards. I’ve also worked as a tutor for nearly 25 years, supporting the learning needs of high and low achieving students in both math and science. Working with such diverse age groups and types of learners has given me a unique understanding of the learning process and the needs of tweens & teens in the science classroom.
I like to use a variety of different approaches and materials when teaching, to allow students of all learning styles to excel. I am a proponent of group work, and students supporting each other to reach a common goal. I believe in hands on learning, and like to provide students the opportunity to “do” science as often as possible.
Lots of praise & gratitude from former students and their parents!
Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University. Education qualifications from Canisius College. Masters of Education from University of Toronto. Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education Technology from Athabasca University.
Having my own children has given me an alternate perspective on teaching and helped me become a better, more empathetic educator. I am environmentally friendly, and a fan of eating low on the food chain, values that enter my classroom on a regular basis!
