MY TEACHING STYLE

My passion is teaching math--not how we learned it from textbooks and memorizing procedures, but by using student centered approaches, manipulatives, and real life math problems. Students do a great deal of mental math and discover and use many different strategies that make sense to them. We use many activities from Van deWalle, and we need to create our own sheets for the kids. So many of those are on my page. Our school's literacy program is adapted from Linda Dorn. We have an intensive reading and writing curriculum based on investigating genres and studying how authors write.
