Over 30 years ago I began this adventure called teaching. I started out with my Special Education credential and used it to teach resource at a small country school (K-8). It was an amazing introduction to the teaching world. I actually cried as the first teaching year ended and the buses headed out of the parking lot. After 3 years, I was then hired at a larger district as a bilingual kindergarten teacher. Since that time, I have taught in First and Second grades. I am still teaching for the same school district. I have created curriculum and benchmark tests for our grade level. I have also managed to be on leadership more than off leadership. (Not good at saying no...lol.) I love teaching and I love creating ways to help my students unlock learning.
A snapshot of my classroom would reveal a positive, well disciplined learning environment. I'm always ready to learn and willing to implement new teaching strategies. I have high expectations of all my students. We learn together in an environment that encourages thinking and synthesizing of the curriculum.
For someone else to share....lol.
I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fresno State and went on to finish my fifth year at Fresno Pacific. I finished with a Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as well as a Learning Handicap Credential. Since that time, I have been trained in Guided Reading, Reciprocal Reading, SB1969 ELD SDAIE, Writers Workshop, EDI, Target Teaching, Close Reading Strategies along with many others too numerous to list. If you teach long enough, you'll be trained in it...lol. Common Core reminds me of thematic teaching, which I loved as this most closely reflects my style of teaching.
